“The fact is that this is a hugely entertaining piece of work. It brings together two commercially gigantic properties—White Lotus meets LOST—in a way that will likely be catnip for some prestige cable outlet, playing up both the rich-people satire and the inexplicable mysteries of the deep, a surprisingly potent combo. And the episode conjures jaw-dropping moments throughout, from the first appearance of the noise and resultant shockwave to the animal migration that ends the episode. Plus, the cruise ship setting is a novel one, the perfect combination of expansive and yet contained: It feels like there’s plenty yet to be explored in future episodes, but we also know these people are trapped here. It’s a strong commercial conceit written with intelligence and depth, which makes it a great fit for outlets like HBO/MAX, FX, or other channels chasing the surprising success of White Lotus.” - The Black List

Beneath the Rust is a feature film written by Justin Kohlas and Matthew Mikita loosely based on real events that happened in Arkansas in the 1980’s. Beneath the Rust also received a 10/10 on The Black List. Less than 1% of scripts receive a perfect 10/10 score, making it extremely rare for a screenplay to achieve the highest rating on the platform. Here’s what they had to say:
“Driven by well-drawn characters and gripping suspense, this crime thriller could attract some serious interest from producers. The film could likely be produced with a low-to-medium, reasonable budget as a smart independent thriller in the spirit of WIND RIVER, HELL OR HIGH WATER, or THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI. This could be attractive for financiers. Producers should take note of this writing team as one to watch.”
"This dark murder mystery with a period setting shows low-medium-budget potential and is a quiet, disturbing, and compelling gem. Archetypal visuals that feel straight off a Springsteen album cover blend with atmospheric elements and the magic realism of Henry’s traumatized perspective on the world. It combines a classic small-town detective story like TRUE DETECTIVE with an exploration of PDST shared by THE DEER HUNTER (1978) and the atmospheric punch and tense redemptive tragedy of FIRST REFORMED (2017).”
SIN EATER
Feature Film
In plague ravaged 14th-century France, a devout monk is sent to investigate rumors of a masked plague doctor kidnapping children from a remote village. As his search for the truth unravels, he uncovers a horrifying connection to the village’s revered but reclusive lord—and must confront his own crumbling faith as he becomes entangled in a nightmare of deception, death, and unspeakable evil.
PROPOSAL AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST
Developed in conjunction with director and producer Willem Holzer, Sin Eater builds on the tradition of horror films like The Witch and Hereditary, which rely not on jump scares but on atmosphere and psychological depth. This story speaks to the fear of losing control, of being consumed by faith or guilt to the point of madness, drawing viewers into an unsettling descent alongside the main character, Brother Matthieu.
This film also has a powerful relevance today. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, audiences understand the feeling of being isolated, trapped, and surrounded by a spreading sickness. Sin Eater taps into these experiences, capturing the confinement, fear, and paranoia many lived through during lockdowns. This connection to recent collective trauma makes the project feel especially relevant.
RANGE OF LIGHT
Feature Film
A group of college friends backpack the famous John Muir Trail in the remote Sierra Nevada. What begins as a life affirming journey devolves into a nightmare when they arrive at a strange resupply camp.
DECK AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST
Set along the iconic John Muir Trail, Range of LIght weaves together elements of breathtaking scenery, human resilience, and unsettling terror. The film will combine the scenic ambiance of Wild, capturing the beauty and isolation of the Sierra Nevada, with the human exploration and folk horror of Midsommar, delving into the psychological dynamics of its characters. Underpinning it all is the folklore of the Donner Party, adding a chilling layer of historical horror. This fusion creates a gripping tale where nature's beauty collides with humanity's darkest impulses.
Riccardo Maddalosso (How to Blow Up a Pipeline) is attached as Executive Producer.
KING STREET
TV Series
The daughter of a British East India Company Captain becomes embroiled in the American Revolution when her father moves their family from London to colonial Boston.
SCRIPT AND DECK AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST
This script was the highest rated pilot hosted on The Black List in 2018. It received several 10/10 ratings and made the “Top List.” King Street was also a Semifinalist in the 5th Annual Screencraft Screenwriting Fellowship and a Finalist in the 2019 Atlanta Film Festival Screenwriting Competition.
Here is what has been said:
“If the writer's vision for subsequent episodes is even half as strong as the series' pilot, this show deserves to go to air. The premise is attention-grabbing and timely in spite of its historical setting, actors would fight for these roles, the dialogue is remarkable, and these pages are clearly penned by a writer with an extreme and polished gift. From Netflix to HBO — and frankly, any prestige cable platform in between — KING STREET could play well and hold a loyal audience for many episodes to come. The only potential caveat with this premise is its high production cost, but production entities with the funds to produce it could more than make their money back if all cards are played correctly. Bravo to the writer on an impressive and damn entertaining piece of writing.”
“KING STREET is a stupendously good read that is as heart-wrenching and loving as it is exciting and violent. The core premise is simple, yet a unique win. The pilot story weaves between Constance's youth as she and her family come to the Americas from England and her eventual involvement in the American Revolution as an adult, posing as a male Continental soldier. All of the plotting therein is outstanding; a balanced origin story that plays out like a family drama juxtaposed against a violently propulsive war drama. The script's thick cast list is handled expertly; full-bodied characterizations that jump from the page and sink their teeth into its viewers. The pilot's dialogue is top-notch; as accessible to modern audiences as it is appropriate for its period. Constance is a spunky, curious, and deeply empathic character whose strong pilot arc would only ripen as each new episode passes. Her father, William, steals the show as a tactful and cultured man with many wisdoms, and his dialogue especially shines. The pilot's setting — primarily colonial Boston — is conjured with specificity and poetry: "We’re on an alluring sunlit trail. Light leaks through the canopy of winter pines and elms. It’s tranquil and quiet. Birds cascade their songs across the late winter sky." Suffice it to say, these are pages to be reckoned with.”
